Frequently asked questions about having a book printed

A softcover book, also known as paperback, are handy and easy to take on the road. Softcover books are cheaper and easier to produce than harcover books, so they can soon be in bookstores. Hardcover books on the other hand, have a solid cover, which makes them particularly durable. This makes them a good choice for, for example, children’s books or other books that need to last a long time. Another advantage is that the cover does not attach directly to the interior, so the book stays open nice and flat – perfect for luxury photo books or cookbooks. We print softcover books on 250-gram sulphate board as standard, but of course you can choose from different cover thicknesses.

Choosing the right format is important and depends on the type of book and who is going to read it. Small formats are perfect for novels or travel guides that need to be easy to carry. For academic works or photo books, a larger format is often more appropriate. Do our standard formats such as A4, A5 or 17×24 cm not quite fit what you have in mind? No worries, together we can choose a format that perfectly suits your needs. It is important to note that even a small difference in size can make a big difference in the price. This is because we do not print books per page, but we print multiple pages on 70 x 100 cm printing sheets. The smaller the book, the more pages we can print at once. That is why we are happy to advise you on choosing a format that suits your needs and budget.

You can choose from different paper types: coated (matt, semi-matt or glossy) and uncoated paper. Glossy paper is nice for books with lots of photos because it makes the colours more intense. Matt paper is finer for text because it is less reflective and therefore easier to read, similar to the comfortable reading experience of a matte e-reader instead of a glossy iPad. Together, we find the best paper to suit the content and style of your book.

How quickly we can print your book depends on several factors. BIe.g. how complex the design is, the number of pages, the finishes and the print run. On average, it takes 2 to 4 weeks after design approval. The printing of your book title takes up to 4 weeks.
